Its construction began in 1980 and ended in 1989 and it was inaugurated in 1993. First some impressive figures: The minaret has a height of 200 meters (compare the famous Koutoubia of Marrakech only 77 meters). Mosque occupies 20,000 m2. 150 000 people can be accommodated. 25,000 faithful can come and pray in a room of 60 meters high and 200 meters long. 5000 women can pray in a reserved room. The roof of this room weighs 1100 tons and opens to the sky in record time. It has a laser-beam indicating Mecca with a range of 30 kilometers. 10,000 craftsmen were needed for its construction. It cost over  400 million €. More than 300 peoples works there all year. This is the largest mosque in the Maghreb and certainly the most beautiful.
